Activites around the Glynhir Estate
The Glynhir Estate is situated in an ideal location for many family attractions and activites.
Activity holidays and breaks in Carmarthenshire, South Wales, UK - riding, walking, painting, fishing, bird watching, pottery, golfing, rambling.
RIDING
There is an approved riding centre on the other side of the river valley, which provides lessons that will suit both adults and children at all levels of experience. There is also a riding centre about 5 miles from Glynhir on the Betws Mountain, offering some fantastic outriding and lessons from a qualified instructor as well as learning days for children.
RAMBLING AND WALKING
Wander through the surrounding fields and woodlands, with its abundance of wildlife, or take a more adventurous route onto the Black Mountain.
PAINTING
Every corner of Glynhir is a picture, where you can sit undisturbed by the hustle and bustle of life.
FISHING
Spend tranquil hours casting your line into the river Loughor. Brown trout can be found above the waterfall, and sewin in the lower reaches. Further afield in Llandeilo is the river Towy which has excellent salmon and sea trout fishing.
BIRD WATCHING
Whether you're a serious ornithologist or just an interested observer, you'll be surprised at the vast variety of birdlife found around the local area; red kites, buzzards, grey herons, nuthatches, wood warblers, and alongside the river, kingfishers and dippers have made their home.
POTTERY
There is a working pottery on the farm, and you'll see many of its wares around the place - especially at the dinner table. You can purchase many items in the Mansion.house.
GOLFING
Glynhir golf club is 500 yards walk from the farm. It lies in a beautiful park-like situation surrounded by superb views. The course is a level 6090 yards with an S.S.S. of 70. There are also some bunkers around to test your skill. There is a pleasant clubhouse for lunch, snacks and drinks. Reduced rate green fees available to Glynhir visitors
FURTHER AFIELD
There are sandy beaches at Carmarthen Bay and the Gower Peninsular, wildlife parks, rare breeds parks, castles, a gold mine, steam railways, country parks, caves, livestock markets, woollen mills and an old fashioned flour mill. We have selected the following list to give you a taster of the area.
ART AND CRAFT
There are a number of very exciting artists in the area as well as some interesting local craft work.
ATTRACTIONS
Within an hour of Glynhir are some fascinating and exciting attractions such as gold mines, country parks and caves.
CASTLES
Wales is famous for its castles and South West Wales boasts some of the most spectacular castles in the country.
GARDENS
There are two of the most famous gardens in Wales within 30 minutes of Glynhir.
MUSEUMS
From Speed to Dylan Thomas and from the woollen industry to coalmining, there are artifacts to suit all.
PUBS AND RESTAURANTS
Whether you are after Indian, Chinese, basic pub fare or something more ecclectic, there are gastronomic delights for all palates.
RAILWAYS
If you fancy meandering round Wales in either a steam train or a vintage steam locamotive or just taking in the view on the Heart of Wales line, look no further.
